Olympic Torch Relay TV Viewing as the Torch Arrives in Beijing The World Anticipates the Opening of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

As of August 6th the Olympic Torch returned to Beijing, bringing along with it the well wishes of the entire world and all the Chinese people. Over the past two days, 190 million viewers have watched at least some part of the Olympic Torch Relay at Beijing.

CCTV's Olympic channel and Beijing Satellite have broadcast the entire torch relay over the past two days, with live broadcasts lasting for 36 hours reaching 190 million viewers. It is another TV viewing peak for the torch relay following on high viewing numbers for the torch leg on Mount Everest.

The torch relay leg in Tiananmen Square and Badaling Great Wall achieved strong ratings over the last two days. As Yang Liwei, the famous astronaut said, the flame represents not only the passing of friendship and peace to the world, but also demonstrates the goodwill of Beijing and China and creates an opportunity for the world to enhance their understanding of China.

From March 24th when the Beijing Olympic flame was collected from Greece, the Torch Relay was regularly broadcast across, CCTV Olympic channel's ”Go with the Olympic Flame”, CCTV 4's “Go with the Olympic Flame to See China”, and Beijing Satellite's “Harmonious Travel's of the Olympic Torch Relay, 100 Day Broadcast.” These three programs followed the Olympic Flame through the entire torch relay. According to data from CSM Media Research's National PeopleMeter panel, 590 million viewers witnessed the torch relay progress through these broadcasts. As the opening of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games draws near, TV viewer numbers for the torch relay have grown; CSM Media Research's National PeopleMeter is tracking this viewing and issuing accurate national viewing figures daily.

On, August 8th 2008, the Olympic flame will proceed to the Olympic Stadium, burning with the world's passion and dreams for an outstanding Olympic Games.
