Over 1 Billion Chinese Viewers Have Tuned Into the Olympics

August 14, 2008, Beijing China ¨C China National TV Rating from CSM Media Research (a part of TNS Media Research), China¡¯s leading audience measurement organization, shows that over 1 billion (unduplicated) Chinese viewers have tuned in to watch some part of the Beijing 2008 Olympics. This represents nearly 85% of the total Chinese TV population. The 1 billion viewer number was eclipsed on August 12, 2008, Day 4 of the games themselves and continues to grow.
This number is based on the viewing of the main CCTV channels that are broadcasting the Olympics over the last 5 days. These channels have good penetration across all of China and broadcast Olympic events all along the day on a daily basis.
According to CSM¡¯s exclusive national TV ratings panel, total TV ratings have increased dramatically by 33% and 15.8% respectively for day time and prime-time viewing. The average person is now spending 208 minutes per day watching TV, a 21 minute increased from the average daily viewing time recorded across 2007 (187 minutes).

In addition, the average viewing time for audiences aged between 25 to 44 years has increased by 15.5% from the same time last year. Paul Wang, Managing Director of CSM comments:¡± Even with the knowledge of how important the Olympics are for people across China, it is amazing to see how fast the Olympics change viewing behaviour both in China and around the world.¡±
